Thanks to its convenient location, Rifugio Tissi is the perfect base for numberless excursions. In addition, it is one of the main stops along Alta Via 1 of the Dolomites as well as along the Munich to Venice trail. The latter, with its 520 km-long route, comprising 28 stages, connects the two towns all the way across the Alps and the Dolomites.
Hikers can reach the hut following several walking trails or even taking the uphill lifts starting from Alleghe, Palafavera, and Capanna Trieste, to ease the ascent.
From Alleghe
This wonderful, scenic itinerary is a stretch of Alta Via 1 and of the Munich to Venice trekking route. Ride the gondola up to Col dei Baldi, then walk on trail 556 as far as Rifugio Coldai (2,132 m) . Alternatively, from Pian di Pezze (parking fee is charged) walk along trail 564 on dirt road as far as Casera Pioda and then continue to Rifugio Coldai (2,132 m).
Walk past the hut and skirt the namesake lake, take trail 560 leading to Val Civetta. Once you reach the saddle, keep on the lower trail, AVOID the one beneath the rockface which is dangerous due to rockfall. Finally, take trail 563 leading to Rifugio Tissi (2,250 m).
From Piani di Pezzè: average time required 4-5 hours
From Col dei Baldi: average time required 3-4 hours
From Palafavera (Parking area - 1,550 m)
Walk along trail 564 as far as Casera Pioda (1,816 m), then ascend along trail 556 as far as Rifugio Coldai (2,132 m) and the namesake lake (2,143 m).
Once you get to the lake, take trail 560 leading to Val Civetta. Go past the Forcella del Col Negher and pay attention to keep on the lower trail and AVOID the one beneath the rockface - highly dangerous due to rockfall - and continue on trail 563 to reach Rifugio Tissi.
From Palafavera. Average time required: 4-5 hours
From Capanna Trieste
From Listolade hamlet (state road 203 Agordina) take the road leading to Val Corpassa as far as the free parking area at Capanna Trieste (1,135 m).
Start on a wide and easy mule-track leading to Rifugio Vazzoler (1,714 m), then continue towards Casette Favaretti and, after climbing up a steep concrete ramp, take trail 560 to Rifugio Tissi (2,250 m).
From Capanna Trieste: average time required 3-4 hours
There are other routes leading to Rifugio Tissi, but these feature some difficult technical sections, making them non suitable for inexperienced trekkers.
These equipped trails/via ferrata are meant only for expert mountaineers, therefore families and less expert hikers are strongly advised against attempting them.
